Format Overview

Three Cricket Formats and Popular Tournaments

Each format has its own pace and strategy — understanding the differences before betting is important.

T20

Twenty20 Cricket

Just 20 overs per side — results come fast and the action is intense. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League), IPL and the ICC T20 World Cup are the biggest events in this format. Because so much happens in a short time, T20 is the most popular format for live betting. A big hit or a wicket can change the odds in an instant.

ODI

One Day International

A 50-over match — there is more opportunity to bet on total runs and partnerships. The ICC Cricket World Cup is held in this format. Fans in Bangladesh follow the Tigers (Bangladesh national team) matches with particular interest. ODI betting has its own appeal in the top batsman and highest run-scorer markets.

Test

Test Cricket

A five-day match where a draw is a possible result, so three sets of odds are offered (Team A win, Team B win and draw). Series result, session-by-session betting and batsman/bowler performance markets are more common in Test cricket. It is the preferred format for the most attentive bettors.

BPL is Bangladesh's biggest franchise tournament — local fans follow it most closely as local teams compete against each other. IPL is held in India but fans in Bangladesh follow it keenly. The ICC T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup are the biggest global cricket events. All of these tournaments' matches are available at 999 bt.

Beyond Cricket

Football and Other Sports Betting

After cricket, football is the most familiar sport in Bangladesh. You can bet on English Premier League, UEFA Champions League and FIFA World Cup matches. Beyond match winner, goalscorer, handicap and corner markets are popular in football.

The main difference between cricket and football betting is match length and in-play pace. In cricket, odds change continuously based on overs, balls and wickets; in football, the biggest odds shifts happen after a goal. Other sports — such as tennis and badminton — are generally limited to match winner and set-score markets.

Market Types

5 Popular Betting Markets

Each market has its own rules and approach. The main markets are explained briefly below.

Match Winner

This market is simply picking the winning team. In T20 and ODI there are usually two sets of odds; in Test there are three (both teams and draw). Example: if Team A wins, your bet wins; if Team B wins, your bet loses.

Toss Winner

A bet on which team will win the toss. There are only two outcomes — Team A or Team B. If you can read pitch conditions and post-toss decisions, this market is straightforward to understand.

Top Batsman

A bet on which batsman will score the most runs in an innings or the whole match. Because there are multiple options, the odds tend to be higher.

Total Runs Over / Under

The key question in this market is whether the runs scored will be above (over) or below (under) a set number. For example, if the line for Team A's innings is set at 170, you decide whether they will score more or fewer.

Multi Bet (Multiple Matches)

A multi bet combines the results of several matches into one bet. If all your selections are correct the return is much higher — but one wrong selection loses the whole bet. A detailed example is given in the odds section below.

First Over Runs

A bet on how many runs will be scored in the first over only — this market is more common in in-play betting. Odds update after every ball, so you need to decide quickly.

Odds Guide

Decimal, Fractional and American — Three Types of Odds

The same value can be shown in three different ways on a betting site. The two examples below explain the difference.

Example 1 — Team A to win (stake ৳1,000)

Format Odds Explanation
Decimal 2.50 Multiply your stake by the odds to get your total return
Fractional 3/2 ৳3 profit for every ৳2 staked
American +150 ৳150 profit for every ৳100 staked
If Team A wins you get back ৳2,500 (৳1,500 profit + your original ৳1,000 stake). If they lose, you lose ৳1,000.

Example 2 — Team B to win (stake ৳1,000)

Format Odds Explanation
Decimal 1.80 Odds are lower for the favourite
Fractional 4/5 ৳4 profit for every ৳5 staked
American -125 A minus sign means this is how much you need to stake to win ৳100
If Team B wins you get back ৳1,800 (৳800 profit). If they lose, you lose ৳1,000.

Multi Bet Example

You bet on three separate matches — decimal odds of 1.40, 1.60 and 1.70 respectively. Combined, the total odds are 1.40 × 1.60 × 1.70 = 3.81 (approximately). With just a ৳100 stake, if all three win you get back ৳381 — but if even one selection is wrong you lose the entire ৳100.

These calculations are examples only — betting is for entertainment, not a means of income.

Live In-Play
While the Match Is On

Odds Shift with Every Wicket and Over

Live betting means you can place bets even after the match has started. Every ball, wicket or boundary changes the odds immediately. Understanding and responding to those changes is what makes live betting enjoyable.

As an example, in a T20 match if Team A has a good score after 15 overs, Team A's odds of winning will shorten and Team B's will lengthen. If two quick wickets then fall, the odds can flip again. This constant movement is what sets live betting apart.

A Few Practical Tips for Cricket Betting

Betting is one form of entertainment — knowing a few basics makes the experience better.

1

Set a budget first: Before each betting session, decide how much money you are putting aside for it. Sticking to that amount is the sensible approach. Betting is for enjoyment, not a reliable way to make money.

2

Understand the format, then choose your market: In T20, match winner and total runs markets are easy to follow. Test cricket also has series result markets. Bet on the formats you know well.

3

Avoid rushing in live betting: In-play odds change fast — quick decisions are more likely to go wrong. Watch how the match is going for a moment before placing your bet.

4

Be careful with multi bets: Combining more selections increases the potential return but increases the risk equally. Start with one or two selections to get comfortable.

5

Play responsibly: Avoid betting again to chase a loss. Read the responsible gaming guide for more details.

Betting Exchange Available

Betting Exchange — Back and Lay

Alongside traditional betting, exchange betting is a separate option where one bettor bets directly against another.

BACK betting: ৳500 on Team A to win — if Team A wins you earn ৳750 profit (before commission); if they do not win you lose ৳500.

LAY betting: Betting that Team A will not win — your liability against a ৳500 backer is ৳750 (৳500 × 1.50). If Team A does not win you receive ৳500 (before commission); if they do win you pay ৳750.

You can find the full rules for exchange betting on the 999 bt Bet page.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cricket Betting

Get the answers to these questions before you start betting.

In T20, matches are short so odds shift quickly — it is the best format for live betting. In ODI, you can track performance across two innings and the top batsman market is very popular. In Test, a draw is a possible result, so three sets of odds are offered and you can bet over a longer period.

Decimal 2.50 means you multiply your stake by 2.50 to get your total return. Example: if you win a ৳1,000 bet you get back ৳2,500 — that includes ৳1,500 profit and your original ৳1,000 stake. If you lose, you lose ৳1,000.

In live betting, the site analyses the current match situation after every ball and updates the odds accordingly. When a wicket falls, the batting team's odds lengthen because they are in a weaker position; a big six brings them back in. As overs progress, odds also shift based on how close or far the team is from their target.

Cricket betting is a form of entertainment — it is meant to add a little more enjoyment to watching a match. Keep in mind that any result is possible in cricket and there is no guarantee of winning a bet. Enjoy it within the budget you have set aside. For ages 21 and above only.

Because BPL is T20 format, match winner, toss winner, top batsman, total runs over/under and live in-play markets are readily available. In-play also includes runs per over and next wicket markets. Multiple BPL matches can be combined into a multi bet.
